Con Sketches...or um commissions you decide

yeah so I was catching flack from my friend Bryan that my con sketches aren't what you would really call "sketches" and for some reason that bugged him. I raised my prices for a con sketch this year. However I also started doing my sketches on full 11x17 artboard and spending quite a lot more time on each one.

THis way I do less sketches throughout the show, but make about the same money. Also when someone goes home and shows off the drawing...it doesn't suck...as bad anyway.

I found when people go to www.comicartfans.com they create a gallery and post artwork they bought or got sketches at shows. So some horrible stuff I did a while back were popping up and I decided a quick sketch in a noisy hall full of people and stagnant funk was never equaling a good drawing. So now I start the sketches at the show, and finish them later at the hotel. Or the ones I can't quite get to I take home with me and finish.

I actually prefer taking them home, because I get to spend alittle more time on them and I get a good scan of the drawing to put in a future sketchbook. It kinda sucks for the people that paid for it because it takes longer, and they dont get that immediate drawing. But in the long run I've always heard back that everyone is happy with a better drawing for the same price. Would you rather get a crappy drawing now, or a better drawing in a couple of months mailed to your door?

Anyway, here are a couple that came from this convention season. I have a couple more to do, so Im sure I will post them as soon as they are finished.
